At Têxtil Nortenha, we are committed to protecting the environment by integrating sustainable practices into every step of our operations. We promote the efficient use of resources, waste reduction, and the enhancement of the circular economy.

We aspire to lead the national textile industry by adopting and maintaining an effective environmental policy, fostering sustainable development, and ensuring environmental protection.

Equally, we prioritize dignity, respect and equality for all professionals, ensuring fair treatment and optimal working conditions regardless of background. With several team members celebrating over 30 years with us, we take great pride in fostering a positive and supportive work environment.

Reducing the environmental impact of our activities, products and services by implementing responsible and sustainable practices. We are committed to lowering carbon emissions, prioritizing the use of recycled and eco-friendly materials, investing in renewable energy sources and promoting efficient resource management.

 

Internal Procedures and Initiatives

Our company embraces a set of internal principles and initiatives that reflect our commitment to sustainability and environmental responsibility. From waste management and material reuse to the transition to clean energy sources and the implementation of more eco-friendly daily practices, we continuously strive to reduce our environmental impact. These actions include, among others, the use of recycled materials, the replacement of single-use plastics, energy efficiency measures in shared spaces, the use of an electric fleet and the promotion of more conscious practices throughout our entire production chain.

Cleaner energy makes a better textile sector

At Têxtil Nortenha, we believe sustainability goes beyond fabric — it is present at every step of our production process. That’s why we’ve invested in solar energy to reduce our environmental impact and help build a more conscious textile sector.

OUR NUMBERS​​

Thanks to our on-site clean energy generation, we’ve already achieved meaningful results.

From 2021 to 2023, our on-site solar system helped us avoid 28.69 tons of CO₂ and save 24.14 tons of coal — and by the end of 2025, we’re on track to more than double those figures.

The 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development, adopted by all United Nations Member States in 2015, provides a shared blueprint for peace and prosperity for people and the planet, now and into the future. At its heart are the 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), which are an urgent call for action by all countries - developed and developing - in a global partnership. Têxtil Nortenha establishes focus on the following Sustainability Development Goals established by the United Nations:

Goal 4 - Quality Education
Our company promotes continuous access to education and training by offering annual learning opportunities to all employees, encouraging both personal and professional development throughout life. This goal goes beyond formal education and ongoing workplace training is one of the key to support lifelong learning, especially for adults outside the formal education system.

Goal 5 - Gender Equality
Achieve gender equality and empower all women.

We are proud to say that 80% of our company employees are female with leadership positions and have excellent working conditions and fair pay.

Goal 7 - Affordable and Clean Energy
The company has increased its renewable energy production with the installation of more solar panels that provide green energy for its clothing production.

Goal 8 - Decent Work and Economic Growth

Internally promote family leave, when necessary, especially in situations of pregnancy and other personal matters. Implement a flexible schedule for all workers in order to obtain a decent and sustained workplace for all. 

Goal 9 - Industry, Innovation and Infrastructure
Upgrade infrastructure and retrofit industries to make them sustainable, with increased resource-use efficiency and greater adoption of clean and environmentally sound technologies and industrial processes, taking action in accordance with their respective capabilities

Goal 10 - Reduced Inequalitie

Proud to say that we empower and promote the social, economic and political inclusion of all, irrespective of age, sex, disability, race, ethnicity, origin, religion, economic or other status.

Goal 12 - Responsible Consumption and Production
Improve business focus on consumptions and production areas through the use manufactured knitwear using recycled yarn. Expand our internal collections which is manufactured using 100% waste leftover fabrics and knits. We try to make our business model as circular as possible.

Goal 13 - Climate Action

Increase our electric automobile fleet which currently 70% of our total vehicles. 

Become more responsible and autonomous in the use of our energy through increasing the use of renewable energy throughout the company.

Goal 15 - Life on Land
We are committed to preserving biodiversity and reducing our impact on terrestrial ecosystems. We prioritize responsible sourcing by working with certified suppliers and selecting raw materials—such as cotton—from sustainable sources that avoid deforestation and land degradation. Additionally, we promote tree planting around our facilities.

Developed an effective, accountable and transparent institution at all levels.

We collaborate with clients, suppliers and external entities that share our social and environmental sustainability values. Through strong and responsible partnerships, we aim to contribute to a more resilient and sustainable textile sector. We believe that meaningful cooperation across the value chain is essential to advancing the Sustainable Development Goals.
