Sustainability

As we enter 2024, we  are pleased to announce that we will be GREENER.

The Têxtil Nortenha Company is committed to protecting the environment and integrating sustainable practices into their operations. It aims to become a leader in the national industry by implementing and maintaining an effective environmental policy.

Environmental Mission

The goal is to reduce the negative impact that our company's activities, products and services have on the environment and the people in the surrounding area.

Internal procedures and initiatives

  • Our production processes are wholly carried out in Portugal, to provide employment opportunities nationally, so our products are 100% MADE IN PORTUGAL!

  • For the transportation of many scraps of fabric, plastic bags have been replaced by reusable bags made from recycled mesh;

  • For sample shipping, adaptation and reuse of rejected/unused export boxes and/or cards and stock, as well as replacement of conventional bags with recycled plastic bags;

  • Electric dryers/blowers have been installed in bathrooms to take greater advantage of  clean energy from solar panels, and paper consumption has been minimised;

  • Lighting in the hallways and bathrooms have on-site sensors to reduce energy consumption;

  • Papers and plastics used in the cutting room are separated after use, and the cutting waste  is sent for recycling;

  • The tape used  on boxes is now recycled and its width has been reduced;

  • Waste treatment is carried out with cloth bags made from stock fabrics, which are returned to be reused;

  • All of our cutting waste is forwarded to specialised companies for recycling and reuse. Later it  will be used in the automotive industry, carpet industry, technical fabrics and ropes. Its reuse can be done in many different ways, from being transformed into yarn for later use in clothing, car upholstery, incorporation in the floor of horse stables, etc;

  • Our internal collections are completely developed from the company's non-used materials to create a sustainable collection using up-cycling method.

The 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development, adopted by all United Nations Member States in 2015, provides a shared blueprint for peace and prosperity for people and the planet, now and into the future. At its heart are the 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), which are an urgent call for action by all countries - developed and developing - in a global partnership.

Têxtil Nortenha establishes focus on the following Sustainability Development Goals established by the United Nations:

With an ethos of dignity and respect, we ensure that all our professionals are treated equally and fairly, regardless of background or origin. Following the best business practices, we guarantee optimum working conditions for all employees. Some of our team have been with us for over 30 years, a testament to the positive working environment we provide.

We have been distinguished as being one of the most socially responsible companies in Portugal, by fostering policies that allow work and family life to be reconciled.

Our goal is to keep improving, so we conduct self-assessment surveys, both “in-house” and with our subcontractors.

To ensure our greener footprint we have become certified as:
